Carla Acord MacKay, 88, of Pontiac, Michigan, died Jan. 12, 2019.

She was born in Knox County, Indiana on Feb. 15, 1930 to Roma and Wallace Parker.

She was the loving mother of Denise Harris-Fiems (Dennis) and Dan Acord; mother-in-law of the late Jim Harris; dear sister of Vera Evans, Alma Brian; sister-in-law of Carolyn Parker; beloved grandmother of Luke (Meredith) Harris, Andy (Marjan) Harris, Phil (Shantel) Harris, Jacquelin Acord and Matt Harris; great-grandmother of Cole, Jack, Bay, Kaiden, McKenzy, Jadzia and Will. Others dear to her are Debbie Acord, Tara Harris and Nicole duPont.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jim MacKay; sisters, Edith Ice, Lois Phelps and Thelma McPeek; brother, James Parker; and grandson, Nathan Acord.

Carla was a 1947 graduate of Pontiac High School, and later Fort Wayne Bible College (B.A. in Biblical Studies), Wayne State University (B.S. in Elementary Education) and Eastern Michigan University (M.A. in Special Education).

She taught for 33 years in the Waterford School District and retired in 1985.

With her husband, Jim MacKay, she traveled extensively in North America. They spent one winter in Mexico, summers in Alaska and throughout Canada. She resided in Alabama from 1989 to 2014. She returned to Michigan, where she enjoyed independent living at American House Oakland.

Her interests included cooking, crocheting, reading, and her family - especially her great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford, Michigan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment in Andersonville Cemetery.
