City of Foley celebrates Christmas

FOLEY - The City of Foley began celebrating the holiday season on Friday, Dec. 6, with the Annual Christmas in the Park and tree lighting in Heritage Park. Christmas Tree Lane was lit up with trees galore, and this year the Foley Public Library took first place for best decorations.

Following on Saturday, Dec. 7 came a flurry of festivities, all starting with the Kiwanis Club’s Annual Foley Christmas Parade. This year’s Grand Marshal was Dean Hansen, former county commissioner and charter member of the Kiwanis Club. He has been involved with the Foley Christmas Parade since its inception. The parade, a local tradition and favorite, featured over 50 floats, walkers, and organizations showing off their spirit. Many Foley school organizations participated, including the band, cheerleaders, dance teams, and JROTC, while local churches, clubs and organizations, and businesses threw goodies to the packed crowd.

Following the parade, everyone made their way over to Heritage Park to see the decorations in the daylight, and to enjoy some special snow falling over Foley. Let It Snow was done differently this year, with bubble machines creating flurries that drifted down over onlookers and park strollers. The effect had kids, and adults, laughing and playing as they took in the tiny Christmas village, Christmas Tree Lane, and kids took photos with Santa.
