FOLEY – Local symbol of the community Bonnie Donaldson is retiring, and during the Feb. 19 city council meeting, Foley Mayor John Koniar publicly commended Donaldson for all that she has done for the city.

Donaldson attended Foley schools and graduated from Foley High School, when she went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Huntingdon College. She then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education with a minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and later received certification as a counselor at the University of Houston at Clear Lake.

Donaldson was elected as President of the Foley High School Alumni Association when she returned home to Foley, and she and her husband, Jimmy, represented the City of Foley at many Heritage Harbor Days events, not only locally but around the country.

At the 2016 NFL Hall of Fame induction of Foley native Ken Stabler, which took place in Canton, Ohio, Donaldson represented the City of Foley. She took part in many more local sporting events by decorating for the events at her high school alma mater, such as many Hall of Fame receptions and Coach Ivan Jones’ 90th birthday party.

Donaldson served on both the Archives Board and the Caboose Club in Foley, and she along with her husband were co-chairs for Spirit Night during the City of Foley centennial in 2015. Also during the centennial, she was chairman of the Holmes Baby Birthday Party. Recently, she preserved many old football programs and compiled a list of the numbers worn by Foley High School players.

Donaldson maintains “The Silent Roar,” a list of Foley High graduates who have passed away. She is on the Holmes Medical Museum Foundation Board and has worked as the Director of the Foley Depot Museum for over 17 years. The Depot Museum hosts visitors from around the world. During that time, Donaldson has archived important documents and memorabilia.

After reading off a proclamation in honor of Donaldson and all her achievements through the years, including all the things which she has done for the City of Foley, Koniar asked her, “What do you do in your spare time, Bonnie?”

On behalf of the citizens and the city, Koniar thanked Donaldson for all her distinguished service and outstanding efforts that she has done while serving the City of Foley.
