Foley officials follow state guidelines

FOLEY - In order to better align with Governor Kay Ivey's guidelines to protect the health and welfare of the public, Mayor John Koniar has declared that city departments will move to essential-only activities on Tuesday, March 31.

Koniar states that city police and fire departments will continue working to ensure the safety of our community. Garbage collection will continue as normal, but recycling will be suspended for now and bulk pickups may take longer to collect. Other activities necessary for the financial operation of the city and proper maintenance of city assets will continue as needed by using a skeleton crew. At city hall, the lobby is open and the phone number is 251-943-1545. The Foley Police Department can be reached at 251-943-4431 for business and non-emergency calls. The Foley Fire Department can be reached at 251-943-1266 for business and non-emergency calls. For emergencies, dial 911.

City employees who are essential to the operations of the city will continue to work. This decision follows the actions of Ivey, who last week closed non-essential businesses in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. The reduction of city workers during this time will reduce interactions that could transmit infection and follow state and national guidelines recommending that as many people as possible remain at home.

The city is committed to working with the Governor and the Alabama Department of Public Health to protect residents during this COVID-19 outbreak.
