Foley Woman’s Club celebrates annual Christmas party

FOLEY - The Foley Woman’s Club celebrated its annual Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 2 at Sweet Southern Scratch. The party featured Christmas songs, lunch, and three games. The ladies tested their skills picking up candy canes with chopsticks and dropping them into a stocking, opening candy with oven mitts, and gave away gifts through a round of the Left/Right game.

The day also marked the kickoff of preparations for the 15th Annual Mad Hatters’ Event, happening on March 18, 2020 at the Foley Civic Center. Doors will open at 10 a.m. Last year’s event raised $22,000 in one day, monies which were then donated to multiple women and children organizations in our area. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event go to these organizations, and the club is looking to break 2019’s record.

Next year’s event is themed World of Books, and will be done slightly different than in the past. Tickets will be dropping to $25 in 2020, and instead of a catered lunch, a light lunch will be served in totes. This way attendees can eat whenever they choose, and can focus instead on the separate events. The tables are going to be decorated based on club members’ favorite women and children’s literature. Those who purchase an entire table will be able to choose which book they get, allowing them to theme outfits if they choose.

Bo Grant, lead singer of The Platters, will once again be entertainment next year, and attendees can enjoy a silent auction, gift raffles, a fashion show, $500 Pot-of-Gold, and of course, the famous hat parade and hat contest. Categories for the contest include “Most Creative Theme,” “Wackiest,” and “Most Glamourous.”

For tickets, contact Sylvia Womack at 251-955-5294 or sylviad419@live.com, or Kelly Barrett at 251-609-9778 or foleywomansclub@gmail.com.

Following the Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 7, the Foley Woman’s Club’s float placed fourth in the Foley Kiwanis Club’s Annual Christmas Parade through the streets of downtown Foley.
