Loxley passes nearly $10 million budget for 2020-21

LOXLEY, Alabama — The Loxley Town Council voted to approve its 2020-21 budget at its Dec. 14 meeting with revenues and expenses totaling nearly $10 million for the coming year.

During the meeting, the council voted unanimously to pass the budget with total projected revenues at $9,816,686 with total expenses of $8,689,737 and long-term debt of $726,631 for a net income of $27,589.

The budget included a slight increase in general fund revenues, from just over $6.6 million in 2019-20 to slightly under $7 million in projected revenues for 2020-21.

Expenses in the town’s general fund budget also had a slight increase for 2020-21, going from over $6.3 million in 2019-20 to just under $6.6 million in 2020-21 with a total surplus in the general fund budget of $371,729.

The town’s utility fund included a surplus of $601,651 for 2020-21 with operating revenues of $2,550,600.

Other income and revenues totaled $313,500, compared to $269,000 in 2019-20, bringing the total net income and expense to $754,200 for a surplus of $27,589, compared to 23,607 in 2019-20.

In other business Dec. 14, the council:

  • Donated $500 to the Robertsdale High School rodeo team.
  • Tabled a petition for annexation for the Loxley Triangle property, an area of about 20 acres located off of U.S. 31 north of Interstate 10.
  • Renewed the town’s sponsorship for the Robertsdale High School baseball team at a cost of $400.
  • Renewed the town’s line of credit with Citizens’ Bank.
  • Approved the purchaser of a copier for town hall at a cost of $4,987.
  • Approved the purchase of diagnostic equipment from Cutting Edge Automotive Solutions at a cost of $11,197.
  • Approved roof replacement for the Loxley dispatch office and Loxley fire department building with Lifetime Roofing Pros at a total cost of $20,100.
  • Approved a loan for the purchase of a 2021 Freightliner M2-106 solid waste vehicle with Community Bank for a four-year fixed interest rate of 1.72 percent with estimated monthly payments of $4,617.
  • Approved an agreement for professional services with Sawgrass Consulting LLC for a total cost of $2,750.
  • Approved an amendment to the town ordinance adding a $100 per incident charge for vandalism/theft of property; a $50 per hour labor charged for damaged line, meter, transponder meter box or lid and relocation services at a cost of $500 per service.
  • Approved a resolution awarding the contract for professional consulting services for disaster recovery and FEMA public assistance to Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc.
  • Approved an invoice for services provided by Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. on the Waste Water Treatment Plant improvements and effluent outfall upgrades at a cost of $68,265.97.
