One fatality reported in Baldwin over Christmas holiday

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — So far, one fatality has been reported over the Christmas holiday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

A Bay Minette teen was killed in the early afternoon of Christmas eve when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree.

According to a release issued Tuesday, Dec. 24, ALEA State Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash just before 12:30 p.m. on U.S. 31, north of Bay Minette.

According to the release, William D. Brooks, 18, of Bay Minette, was pronounced dead at the scene when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving, for unknown reasons, left the roadway while traveling north near King Lane. Brooks was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release.

A restrained passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Sawyer McCullough, also of Bay Minette, was airlifted to an area hospital with unspecified injuries. His condition was unknown as of Thursday, Dec. 26.

Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
