Potential new subdivisions, businesses coming to Elberta

ELBERTA - There are two proposed subdivisions that are up for sketch plat review on Old Foley Road in Elberta, said Planning Commission Facilitator & Secretary Caryn Woerner.

“It would change the face of Elberta,” she said. “If developed as proposed, there would be a total of approximately 172 homes. They would be on both sides of the street, one being The Porches. There’s 33 lots that were approved in there some time back, and we have a major developer that is probably well on the way to getting that property. They’re also going to buy the farmland across the street that was formally known as Peasant Run, and it’s going to be known as Peasant Run again, I think … This is a major home builder, so they have the ways and means.”

Along with the new proposed housing developments, there are a number of new commercial businesses that have recently been proposed within Elberta town limits. Though unable to release business names at this time, Woerner said a new thrift store has been proposed on Highway 98 east of Elberta Grocery. She received a call during November concerning a proposed coffee shop coming to an existing downtown commercial building. Finally, a new retail store may be coming near County Road 97, which is within the town’s police jurisdiction.

“It’s all but approved,” Woerner said concerning the new retail store. “It has been through the county and it is waiting on our approval.”
