Robertsdale seniors celebrate November birthdays

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Robertsdale seniors celebrated November birthdays, along with one very special anniversary, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, with a Thanksgiving feast at the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center.

Those celebrating birthdays in November were thankful to receive goodie bags. Door prizes were also available.

Lunch featured turkey and dressing, fried chicken, rice dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, candied yams and a variety of desserts, including a special wedding cake in honor of the 70th anniversary of Lillian and Joe Cutro.

Celebrating birthdays in November included Myra Bradford, Shirley Darling, Lee Day, Harvey Nabors, James Kelly, Virginia Michaels, Mary Dykes, Clyde Schofield, Emma Davenport, Jenny Gipson, Sue Cooper, Sharlene Sellers, Bud Biggs, Randall Ware, Antonya King, Brayden Wallace, John Hughes, Jacob Powell, Linda Booker, Don Auseon, David Boardman, Jo Ann Joy, Ronald Koptis, Paula Wirth, Bill Rigsby and Austin Givens.

The November Birthday Bash was also combined with Lunch-n-Learn with special guest speaker Jean E. Hogue, partnership specialist with the Atlanta Regional Census Center.

Hogue spoke on what has changed with the 2020 census from previous census taking. Notices will begin in March of 2020 and the enumeration will be conducted electronically.

Hogue said she would be happy to have a representative come to assist Robertsdale seniors with the filing process. Anyone wishing more information can contact her at 678-938-1320.

The George P. Thames Adult Activity Center hosts daily, weekly, monthly and special events for adults over age 50 at the center on East Chicago Street and at the PZK Hall on Alabama 104 in Robertsdale.

The Center’s monthly soup kitchen, normally held on the last Friday of every month, will be held this month on Friday, Nov. 22 because the center will be closed Nov. 28-29 for Thanksgiving.
