DAPHNE, Ala. –  Baldwin County’s own,  Phillip Ellis, has released the latest of his, “Golf n’ Grits” series. Fully titled,” Golf n' Grits, Orville and Calvin Ride Again” is the second collection of tales following the original, “Golf n’Grits, The Misadventures of Orville and Calvin Clyde” released in 2009.

This is the follow up book in a series based on Ellis’ long running magazine features. Its available on Kindle Books, his first EBook.

“All these stories came from my golf magazine, “Golf Today,” the Eastern Shore author said. “It was our most popular feature and was circulated to over a million readers.

Golf Today magazine ran from 1999-2017. His interest in writing began in high school and continued as a hobby until the late nineties and the creation of the publication. He has also written for the Azalea City News, Bayside Loafer, Mobile Press Register, Lagniappe and Gulf Coast Media. Ellis hosted a radio show titled "Golf Today" on WKRG 710 for about three years.

The author explained, “combining writing, humor and the lighter side of golf has come from a number of sources.”

“My inspirations include, Mrs. Grimes, my high school journalism teacher, humorist Erma Bombeck, Saturday Night Live, the late Lewis Grizzard and life,” he said – adding, “I have to credit Caddyshack my favorite movie. A talented local artist, Sam Gambino: sam@samgambino.com, designed the original artwork for both of my covers.”

The new book will be available in paperback by the end of February and for sale in select golf shops and retailers along the Gulf Coast.

The author and his wife Nancy have two children and four grandchildren and live on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay with their Great Pyrenees, Annie, and a grumpy cat named Tallulah.

When he’s not writing or playing golf, Ellis enjoys films, reading, and music. He serves as bassist, part time percussionist, and vocalist for the Bongo Kings, a vintage rock and roll band that play regularly at hospitals, rehab centers, and assisted living facilities.
