Baldwin High Schools vandalized

Posted

On Wednesday, July 7, officials discovered that vandals had damaged several Baldwin County High Schools including Foley, Fairhope, Daphne, Gulf Shores and Bayside Academy.

Authorities suspect the vandalism occurred sometime between the morning of Friday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 6.

At Foley High School, the vandals broke into the gym and locker room areas. Multiple school buses on the campuses were spray-painted with vulgarities. No photos of the damages to the school buses or within the schools were released at press time.

At Fairhope High School, Principal Jon Cardwell wrote in an email to parents that the five young men gained entry to FHS on July 2 at 1:15 a.m.

“During their time in the building, they stole a bronze-replica of our Pirate statue from the front lobby which has sat in the lobby for over 20 years, valued at around $3,000 to $5,000 to replace,” Cardwell wrote in the email message.

Cardwell said the same group broke into Bayside Academy and stole gear from that school’s locker room which is why they are wearing Bayside clothing in surveillance photos.

Daphne Police said in an online statement that the individuals were recorded on video at Daphne High School campus just after 2 a.m. on Friday, July 2. Officials said the group went into the school’s athletic buildings and caused several thousand dollars in damage.

Baldwin County School officials said in a statement that the vandals caused “tens of thousands of dollars in damage” across all the campuses during the crime spree.

Police and school officials are asking for anyone with information about these incidents to contact their local police department.

Cardwell also asked parents to watch social media accounts for any mention of the incident or photos being posted by the perpetrators.
