MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Bayshore Christian High School sophomore John Malone tossed a no-hitter in game two of the 2021 AHSAA Class 1A State Baseball Championship Series at Riverwalk Stadium Wednesday to even the series with Donoho, and he continued in the second game to hurl two more shutout innings as the Eagles (28-9) claimed the state title with the doubleheader sweep.

He was a master of his pitches in the 11-0 five-inning gem striking out right and facing just 16 batters overall. His only flaw was one hit batter.  In the second game, an 18-0 win, he finally allowed a hit, a single by Nic Thompson, but left the game with the Eagles of Coach John Hauge leading 3-0.  Mikael Bryant got the win, pitching the last three innings. He allowed a double to Tyler Allen and struck out four.

The Eagles, competing in championship play for the first time since joining the AHSAA three years ago, combined for 30 hits in the two Wednesday wins. Donoho (24-12) won game one Tuesday 6-3, but Coach Steve Gendron’s pitchers had no answer for the free-swinging Eagles Wednesday. The Falcons, like Bayshore Christian, were making their first appearance in the state finals.

Eagles’ catcher Jack Malone had three hits with two doubles and a single to drive in two runs. Bryant had one hit and three RBIs, Cole Dean slugged three hits with two RBIs, and Luke Werneth had two hits and three two RBIs. Jace Jones had three hits and three RBIs, and Jack Wheeler had two hits and two RBIs.

In the opener Wednesday, John Malone also contributed two hits and an RBI, Dean had a triple and double and two RBIs, and Werneth had a double and two RBIs. Streed Croom, Bryant and Jack Wheeler also had two hits.

Remaining games (7A, 4A and 3A)  are being live-streamed over the NFHS Network and the games at Riverwalk Stadium also being televised live over the AHSAA TV Network produced by WOTM TV.
