PENSACOLA, Florida — A man wanted in connection with a shooting in Baldwin County was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Escambia County, Florida, following a high-speed chase with deputies there.
According to Escambia County jail records, Robert Rodriquez, 40, of Pensacola, Florida, was booked on Thursday, Jan. 16 on charges of flee/elude police, aggravated assault, kidnapping and vehicle theft, all felonies. He is currently in jail on a $140,000 bond.
According to a release issued Thursday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, deputies in Baldwin County responded to the area of U.S. 90 and Champion Paper Road in Seminole, where they located a man who had been shot in the chest.
According to the release, the victim stated he was robbed and shot by a “known suspect.” He provided a description of the vehicle and suspect to the deputies and the information was passed on to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle.
Escambia County Deputies intercepted the vehicle on Michigan Avenue in Pensacola and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect fled in the vehicle and led deputies on a car chase that ended near Fairfield Drive.
Rodriguez was arrested and transported to the hospital. A rifle was located in the stolen vehicle. In addition to the charges in Escambia County, charges are pending in Baldwin County. He is scheduled to appear in Escambia County Circuit Court on Feb. 6, according to jail records.
