Bayside Academy girls’ team earns Red Map trophy as runners-up thanks in part to Doyle’s runner-up finish

With all seven point-scorers in the top 30, including junior Caden Phillippi as the individual champion, the Bayshore Christian boys’ team collected its third consecutive state title Saturday at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s championship meet in Moulton.

It marked the school’s second straight Blue Map trophy on the Class 3A stage following another in Class 1A-2A.

The Eagles had representatives finish first (Phillippi), 12th (Jack Wheeler), 15th (Ezekial Dernlan), 16th (Jonah Elliot), 23rd (Henry Barber), 27th (Caleb Heger) and 28th (Joseph Lovelady) to hold off Altamont in the team competition by a 63-66 margin.

On the Class 5A circuit, the Bayside Academy girls’ team took home the Red Map trophy as state runners-up where all but one point-scorer recorded top-30 finishes.

Admiral junior Catherine Doyle led the way with a second-place finish for an individual runner-up title. She was joined in scoring points by Bayside Academy representatives in fourth (Annie Midyett), 14th (Avery Therrell), 17th (Grace Dawson), 20th (Ansleigh Smith), 23rd (Shelby Fargason) and 65th (Virginia McCrory).

Those runners were among the six local athletes who earned top-10 finishes and 26 top-30 finishes among the 127 Baldwin County representatives.

Spanish Fort senior Alexiana Hinote (Class 6A) and Bayshore Christian seventh-grader Anna Dernlan (Class 3A) both finished ninth and Orange Beach junior Libby Tierce (Class 4A) grabbed 10th.

Below are full local results from the AHSAA State Cross Country Championships.
