Fairhope HR restructure could cause demotion for current director

Posted

Changes to the Human Resources department for the city of Fairhope could be coming soon, as Mayor Karin Wilson said the department is being changed to suit the city’s needs.

“It’s just a situation because of major growth and needs for the future,” Wilson said. “We need a larger department to be able to handle those needs.”

Wilson said the changes being made were part of the budget recently passed by the city council, which called for some changes in that area.

Two positions in the department are currently listed on the employment section on the city’s website, a Human Resource Coordinator position and a Human Resources Manager position.

Pandora Heathcoe currently serves as this city’s HR director, and Wilson said she would be put into the coordinator position.

“She’s moving to that other position,” Wilson said. “It’s still in HR, but we just have more needs.”

Heathcoe’s current position has a pay grade that ranges between $51,108.98 and $81,774.38, which would be the salary for the renamed Human Resources Manager position.

If moved into the Human Resources Coordinator position, Heathcoe’s salary range decreases to between $33,113.60 to $43,056.

Heathcoe could not be reached for comment despite multiple attempts by The Courier.

Shortly after this story was posted at gulfcoastnewstoday.com, the HR Coordinator position was removed from the employment portion of the Fairhope city website.
