One of the only things missing from Ryley Harrison’s standout senior season at Fairhope High School was an All-American recognition and MaxPreps bestowed that honor with a second-team spot.

Recently named Miss Softball and the Class 7A player of the year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, Harrison helped the Pirates to a third straight state semifinal this spring where Fairhope earned a second Red Map trophy as state runners-up.

Harrison was one of five Alabamians named to the MaxPreps All-American team last Wednesday, July 5. Wetumpka’s Mya Holt and Hewitt-Trussville’s Sara Phillips were first-team honorees as juniors and Taniyah Brown from Brewbaker Tech and Alyssa Faircloth from Tuscaloosa County joined Harrison on the second team in their final high school seasons.

All five athletes are set to join Division I college programs where Holt and Faircloth will team up at Troy, Brown is heading to Memphis and Phillips is committed to Maryland. Harrison committed to South Alabama on Oct. 25, 2021, and signed her National Letter of Intent on April 17.

In both state tournaments from 2021 and 2023, Harrison and Phillips squared off when the Fairhope Pirates and Hewitt-Trussville Huskies competed in Oxford with the state title on the line. Most recently, Fairhope beat Hewitt-Trussville 1-0 to earn a spot in the championship game undefeated but the Huskies won their way out of the consolation bracket then beat the Pirates twice to win a second Blue Map trophy in three years.

According to stats on MaxPreps, Harrison finished her senior season in the top 30 of national rankings across four categories and top 70 in another two. Her 76 RBIs were 12th in the country, her 26 wins in the circle were 18th, the .933 slugging percentage registered 21st and 20 home runs ranked 29th. Also in the pitcher’s circle, Harrison’s 0.63 ERA ranked 68th and her 291 strikeouts were 69th.

Harrison closed her high school career with a .442 batting average, .518 on-base percentage and .905 slugging percentage over 454 plate appearances where she collected 164 hits (26 doubles, 7 triples, 44 home runs), 180 RBIs and 100 runs offensively.

In the pitcher’s circle, she recorded a 55-6 record and 0.80 ERA with 626 strikeouts over 342 innings pitched which included 29 complete games, 24 shutouts, 7 no-hitters and 4 perfect games. Opponents registered a .137 batting average and .191 on-base percentage with 165 hits, 65 walks and 39 earned runs.

Across 227 total chances in the field, Harrison compiled a .965 fielding percentage with 164 putouts, 55 assists and 6 double plays.
