Lion coach Scott, players want longer postseason stay after last year’s run

With big returners back and talented new faces to fill graduated roles, Foley head football coach Deric Scott sees another opportunity to win Class 7A Region 1 right now and is going all-in.

Among those returners include receiver Perry Thompson and lineman Logan Joellenbeck who are respectively committed to Auburn and South Alabama. They, along with their teammates, took away lessons and experience from last year’s run and will look to step into larger leadership roles this year.

All-county running back Kolton Nero confirmed the team’s want for another long season but said they can only take things one game at a time. That road gets started Aug. 25 against Prattville before region play starts Sept. 8 against MGM.

Key Storylines

-After their first region title in 15 years, head coach Deric Scott says it’s another playoff run or bust for this year’s Foley Lions.

-With another chance to put up explosive offensive numbers, the Lions shook off the rust in the 7-on-7 season and looked to hit their stride closer to the end of the summer.

“The expectation is a region championship and playoff bound or bust. But we want to get there and win playoff games, we all got a taste of it,” head coach Deric Scott said. “Now we understand it takes a little more digging and a little more grinding in that playoff game than in the regular season.”
