Foley Senior Center plans exciting August, return of many favorite activities

FOLEY - The Foley Senior Center is officially in full-swing, bringing back many member favorites as the organization continues to welcome back past members as well as newcomers. The center was recently reopened after being closed for over a year due to the pandemic. Upon reopening, the center offered limited activities as restrictions continued to lift. Now, with August here, the Foley Senior Center is once more offering classes, trips and memories.

Line dancing classes will return every Wednesday in August. Beginners’ classes will be at 12:30 p.m. and the improver class will take place at 1:30 p.m. Instructor led classes at the Senior Center are $2 for members and $4 for non-members.

Members can also expect the return of Dinner B4 Dark, taking place on Thursday, Aug. 19. The bus will depart from the Senior Center at 4 p.m. and head north to Ivey’s in Robertsdale. An RSVP is needed no later than Tuesday, Aug. 17, in order to get the headcount to Ivey’s. Currently, the Senior Center can only transport 24 people, but attendees are welcome to carpool, caravan or meet the group at the restaurant. Non-members who wish to ride in city provided transportation will need to pay the cost of $2 when they sign up, and you aren’t officially signed up until the payment has been made.

The center’s Open Cards and Games participants invite anyone interested in playing Cribbage to join them at the center on Thursdays at 10 a.m. A sign-up sheet is available for anyone interested in playing or learning Euchre, which can also be played Thursdays at 10. BINGO players are in luck, with a game planned on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. for the chance to win some great prizes. To bring the month to a close, a Potluck lunch will be held at the center on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at noon. The city of Foley will provide fried chicken, and attendees are asked to bring salads, vegetables and desserts.

The Foley Senior Center is located at 304 East Rose Avenue. Membership fees are $11 per year, and applications can be submitted online at https://cityoffoley.org/senior-center. Check the website for a full calendar of upcoming activities.
