Fairhope alum and current Duke quarterback Riley Leonard returned to his old stomping grounds and hosted a youth football camp at W. C. Majors Field Saturday, June 17.
The inaugural Riley Leonard Football Clinic also featured instruction from the current Pirate coaching staff as well as Blue Devil offensive lineman Graham Barton. Also instilling lessons was David Morris from QB Country, the throwing program based in Mobile that has worked with professional quarterbacks including Orange Beach's Brandon Silvers.
Leonard is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign where he was named the starting quarterback in the offseason then led Duke to its first postseason bowl game since 2018. He was also named MVP in the Blue Devils' 30-13 Military Bowl win to be the first Duke quarterback named a bowl MVP since Daniel Jones, the current quarterback for the New York Giants.
After 13 games as the sophomore starter, Leonard compiled 2,967 yards on 250 completions with 20 touchdowns to also help register the Blue Devils' first 9-4 season since 2014.
As a Fairhope Pirate, Leonard was a two-time all-state athlete in both football and basketball and was a member of the Class of 2021.
