DAPHNE, Ala. – The Daphne High School Administration and Athletic Department have announced the hiring of Jenny Laird as the Lady Trojans Head Softball Coach.

Coach Laird is a 2008 graduate of Baker High School and a member of three state championship teams for the Honeybees.

“I am so excited to be part of the Daphne High School Family,” she said. “I can’t wait to get started with my girls and help make Daphne softball the best it can be for the community. I’m looking forward to a great year and season!”

After high school she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Spring Hill College.

She spent a year as the graduate assistant at Spring Hill after her playing career. And in 2013, helped SHC's Badgers finish second at the NAIA National Tournament.

Returning to Baker as an assistant she spent six years as assistant to Hall of Fame Coach, Tony Scarbrough and helped the HoneyBees win the program's first-ever 7A state championship in 2015.

She then took the head coaching position at Theodore High School and also served as the strength and conditioning coach to multiple female athletic programs for the last two years before accepting the job at Daphne High School.

DHS Principal Fletcher Comer and Athletic Director Kenny King are excited about her program vision and the future of Daphne Trojans Softball.

“Coach Laird has a great reputation and a knack for building relationships and developing student athletes,” said Coach King. “She shares our vision for Daphne Trojans Softball and I’m thrilled about what this day means for our program. In addition to her coaching experience, coach Laird is an accomplished educator and leader who uses softball to teach life lessons and emphasize the importance of being a student-athlete.”

Principal Comer said, “This is a great day and a great fit for Daphne High, athletically and academically. Throughout this process, we were looking for someone that would continue to build and nurture our Trojan Softball Program and student-athletes. We have found that in Coach Laird.”
