Gulf Coast Arts Alliance hosts Greg Cartmell for two-day workshop

The Gulf Coast Arts Alliance is thrilled to bring back one of its favorite artists and instructors, Greg Cartmell, to the Gallery Thursday, Oct. 28 and Friday, Oct. 29. The GCAA is known for showcasing local and regional artists in its Gallery. The nonprofit organization also hosts in-gallery art classes for up-and-coming or other master artists.

A professional artist for over 45 years, Greg Cartmell is nationally recognized as one of the country’s foremost landscape painters. Cartmell paints en plein air; the tradition of on-location painting, directly from nature. A true impressionist, Cartmell paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor, drawing the eye to a mixture of brilliant color.

Cartmell currently resides in Meridian, MS where he has a studio and teaches art. He travels extensively conducting workshops throughout the United States. His teaching method is “alla prima,” which means at once.

The two-day workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the GCAA Gallery at 225 E. 24th Avenue, Gulf Shores. The cost is $200 for both days.

Cartmell is a multi-media artist and invites students to work in the medium of their choice; oil, acrylic or watercolor. A supply list will be available at the Gallery. Those who are working in different media will need to take that into account when purchasing supplies for this class. Cartmell hopes to complete three to four paintings with each student during this workshop. COVID restrictions will be in place.

Stay tuned for more on Cartmell’s class by following the Gulf Coast Art Alliance Gallery on social media or, call the Gallery at 251-948-2627.
