A 48-year-old Gulf Shores motorcyclist died from injuries he sustained in an accident on Canal Drive on Saturday, April 6.

Gulf Shores Police Department officers arrived to the 1000 block of East Canal Drive around 10:05 p.m. for reports of a serious accident with injuries involving a motorcycle and a car. Due to the severity of his injuries, the motorcyclist, Steven E. Hodo, was transported to a hospital by helicopter, according to a news release posted on Facebook by the police department.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but evidence recovered at the scene and witness interviews indicate the car was traveling west on Canal Drive when the motorcycle, traveling east, crossed into the westbound lane of traffic, colliding with the car.

Hodo died after arriving at the hospital, the release said. The driver of the car was not injured.

If anyone has information or witnessed the accident, they are asked to contact the police department at (251) 968-2431.
