GULF SHORES (2:30 p.m., March 29) - Gulf Shores Police have released the identity of the man arrested shortly after the March 27 altercation that led to one person being shot in the leg.

Jaytwon Williams, an 18-year-old from Bay Minette, has been charged in Gulf Shores with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after he reportedly attempted to enter vehicles during the incident. He has not been charged with the shooting.

GSPD transferred Williams to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, and he was transported to Bay Minette. Williams was out on bond on other charges.

A search of Williams’ name in the Baldwin County Jail View revealed he was arrested and booked into the jail in September 2023 on three counts of failure to appear felony and violation of release order. GSPD did not have any information on Williams’ previous charges.

(3:30 p.m., March 28) - Before being taken into custody, an 18-year-old man reportedly attempted to flee the area by entering multiple vehicles driving in the 1900 block of Gulf Shores Parkway. Detectives are asking those victims to come forward and contact the GSPD. Anyone with information about last night’s shooting are asked to contact the GSPD at (251) 968-2431.

The man has been taken into custody as a suspect, but several additional suspects are being investigated, and GSPD has made contact with them. Investigators are working to clarify who the shooter is suspected to have been.

(11:25 a.m., March 28) Gulf Shores Public Information Officer Grant Brown said his office is managing the update of information to free up officers for the ongoing investigation. Brown said GSPD is reviewing cellphone videos, surveillance footage and witnesses.

GSPD received a report of shots being fired at approximately 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and East Beach Boulevard. The juvenile victim was shot in the leg during an altercation with people known to him. He was transported and later released from Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The names of the victim and suspects are not being released due to their juvenile status.

The incident happened close to The Hangout in Gulf Shores, prompting the restaurant to make a post on social media, stating:

“Gulf Shores Police Department is on the scene of a shooting that took place earlier this evening at the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Beach Hwy. Suspect(s) and victim(s) were not at The Hangout. All Hangout patrons are safe, and we await further details from GSPD.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim(s).”

One year ago, on March 28, 2023, a 21-year-old Fairhope man was arrested after a fight in the same area that led to the shooting of a teenage boy. As of February, he was still in custody and faces several charges, including attempted murder and reckless endangerment. On Feb. 28, his request to have his bond lowered from $1 million to $200,000 was granted by Judge Scott Taylor.

This week is spring break for Baldwin County Public Schools.

This is a developing story. Gulf Coast Media is awaiting information from GPD and will update as more information becomes available.
