James Cowley Finch, III

September 26, 1956 – February 25, 2021

James (Jim) Cowley Finch, III, Renaissance man, foodie, master guitarist, and lover of life, died surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 25. Jim was a long-time resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fern Finch; and his father, James Finch, Jr. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Wanda Finch, of Spanish Fort; two beautiful daughters, Carrie (Clint) Moore of Spanish Fort, and Katie (Jansen) Voss of Birmingham; five adoring grandsons, Connor Moore, Hill Voss, Callen Moore, Graham Voss, and Clark Moore; three devoted sisters, Rose Ann (Brad) Wells, Mary (Johnny) Lang, and Edie (Rusty) Houseknecht; a host of caring aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends; and one very loyal Chihuahua, Andy. Jim was a talented electrical engineer who worked for Kimberly Clark for 35 years. He was known for his tireless work ethic and uncanny ability to evaluate problems and determine solutions. Jim was the son of a son of a sailor. His love of the water began as a child where he spent time with his father on their family shrimp boat. Always the jokester, one of his fondest childhood memories was when he brought a baby alligator home and put it in his mother’s bathtub. Jim had a life-long love affair with music, playing guitar, sailboats, Fairhope Yacht Club, Ben’s Jr. Bar-B-Que (RIP), Western films, and spaghetti. He was a proud member of Doc Rogers and the Rock Dodgers band and Christ the King Sunrisers choir. Had he been an actual contestant on the game show Jeopardy, he would have “bet the house.” Jim was one of the most loyal and devoted friends that anyone could hope to find. He will be forever missed and fondly remembered. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 1, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne with Father Matthew J. O’Connor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Steve Coley, Joey Bertagnolli, Michael Bertagnolli, Ricky Bertagnolli, Joe Jones, Cliff Nelson, Joe Tramuta, and Jim Youngue. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim’s grandsons and the Big Belly Boys of Fairhope Yacht Club. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
