John Phillip Sheely, 73, of Orange Beach, Ala., passed away on August 12, 2021.
He was born to Virginia Smith on December 27, 1947, in Indianapolis, Ind.
John graduated from Cascade High School, Clayton, Ind. in 1966 and went on to study Business, at Indiana University. John worked for American Airlines for 48 years. He started as a Ramp Agent in Indianapolis, IN in 1967 and finalized his career as a Manager in Charlotte, N.C. in 2016.
John enjoyed being a Volunteer Fireman, trap shooter, fisherman, boater, and traveler. Most importantly, he was a treasured husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and great uncle.
John met Diane L. Weber and wed in 1981 in Indianapolis, Ind. Together they raised Scott Nathan Gundlach.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Smith Otlewis; stepfather, Joseph J. Otlewis; grandparents, John Phillip and Ethel Foxworth Smith, who raised him.
John is survived by his wife Diane; stepson, Scott Gundlach (Maureen); grandsons, Seth Gundlach and Gabriel Gundlach; great granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth Gundlach; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins; chosen family and friends.
The family has entrusted Faith Chapel Funeral Home with the arrangements. John chose to be cremated, did not want a Funeral or Memorial. In lieu of gifts, the family has requested donations be made in John’s honor to any charity.
