Joseph Leonard Callaway, age 89, a resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away on Dec. 16, 2023. Joseph was born on Mar. 11, 1934, at Holmes Hospital in Foley, Alabama. He was raised on the Bon Secour River and was a lifelong resident of Baldwin County. Joseph was a US Navy Veteran and served from 1952-1956. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #766 of Foley since 1962. Joseph retired from AT&T after 30 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement years, spending them with family and going fishing.
Preceding him in death, are his parents, Hassel and Frances Callaway and his daughter, Tink Callaway. Joseph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey E. Callaway; daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Peterson of Elberta, Alabama, and Patty Bennett of Gulf Shores, Alabama; grandchildren, Robby Peterson, Alden Callaway, Angela Peterson Bell, David Fowler, Joseph Fowler, Rebecca Allen, Audra Allen, Rachel Tanner, Kane Picotte, Evan Bennett, and Shelbie Bennett; 13 great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A visitation was held at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama, on Tues., Dec. 19, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service was held at Shell Banks Baptist Church Cemetery in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Wed., Dec. 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
