June looks like it will be a jumping month at Foley Public Library! The library is coming back strong with various events for children and adults.

The Annual Summer Reading Program for children starts in June. Book logs with program info can be picked up at the library. There will be an “Elephantails and Piggie Palooza” this year filled with various renditions of elephant and piggie books. Check the Foley Public Library Storytime page for posts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in June until Tuesday, June 29.

On June 29, the Summer Reading Program Finale will be held. Be sure to go to the library’s website and the Children’s page as well as the Facebook pages for more info.

The “Read A Book – Use Your Imagination” project is going on for a second month. Children are asked to come check out a book and create a descriptive narrative about the book using a cereal box. There are five different categories and the winners in each will receive a $100 gift card to a local business. Completed works are due by 5 p.m. on June 15. Winners will be announced at the Summer Reading Program Finale on June 29. More info can be acquired at the library.

The “Know Your Author” Scavenger Hunt is back for another month with five more books to find in the library. Featured authors are C. J. Box, John Grisham, Mary Kubica, David Baldacci and Stuart Woods. Come to the Circulation Desk and let them know which author you wish to answer a question about. Whatever the answer is to the question is a clue to where you will find the “place-holder book.” Bring the “place-holder book” to the Circulation Desk and receive a hardcover copy of the book for your own collection. This scavenger hunt ends when all five books have been found.

“Summer Saturday Family Movies” will begin on Saturday, June 19 at 11 a.m. in the upstairs meeting room of the library. Family friendly movies (all rated PG) will be shown and free popcorn and drinks will be served. Please call the library for a list of the movies to be shown in June, July and August. You can also find them on the website. Children under the age of 12 must have a parent/guardian with them.

An adult art/craft class will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 9:30 a.m. “Art to Trade” will emphasize Artist Trading Cards with particular emphasis on sponge painting backgrounds with acrylic paints. Space and supplies are limited. Reservations are required. Please call the library to reserve a spot.

A new monthly addition to the library’s schedule will be “Coffee & Donuts With an Author.” The first session will be held on Wednesday, June 30 at 10 a.m. in the upstairs meeting room. We plan to bring in local authors to discuss their latest works and/or their process. A Q&A session will be held at the end of each presentation. Our first featured local author is Lisa Kirkman who wrote “Meeting at Matthew Street.” Seating is limited and reservations are required. Please call the library to reserve a seat.
