BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Bay Minette native Kirk Jay gave a knock-out performance before his hometown crowd Saturday night, March 23 at the L.D. Owen Performing Arts Center on the campus of Coastal Alabama Community College.

Jay had the crowd of hundreds on their feet in his first performance back in Bay Minette since taking third place on Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice.

The concert opened with, “Trinity,” a trio of students from Daphne High School, followed by the uniquely powerful, “King James Jr.,” dubbed as a Gospel mime, from Mobile.

Jay then took the stage with his band The Kuntry Funk and performed for well over an hour, beginning on a humorous note.

“I said if I ever got famous, I would acknowledge these two songs, beginning with this first song, the first song I ever learned,” Jay said, after which he burst into a soulful rendition of the Alphabet Song, quickly followed by “I Love You,” the theme song to Barney and Friends.

Jay went on to perform a string of country hits, including the Rascal Flatts classic “God Bless the Broken Road,” which landed him a four-chair turn and a spot-on Blake Shelton’s Team.

Jay also announced that he will begin touring with Rascal Flatts this summer and is working on an album, which he hopes to drop on July 1, his birthday.

Jay finished the performance with Prince’s “Purple Rain,” followed by his original song, “Defenseless,” which was co-written by Voice alum Nicolle Gaylon.

“I just want everyone here to know how much I appreciate you,” Jay told the crowd. “I give all of the glory to God and I don’t want anybody here to feel bad for me. I’m doing OK. Third place is a good place to be and I know I’m always first place when I come back here.”
