Lamar Sharpless, 78, of Orange Beach, Alabama, passed away on Nov. 29, 2023. He was born on May 9, 1945, in Atmore, Alabama. Lamar was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Lamar proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War. His military associations were a significant part of his life, and he carried the values and discipline he learned during his service with him throughout his life. After his military service, Lamar had a successful career in the Agriculture Chemical Business for 40 years. He was highly respected in his field and made valuable contributions to the industry.

Lamar strongly believed in giving back to his community, embodying the spirit of service and generosity. Additionally, Lamar enjoyed being an avid Alabama Football Fan. He was passionate about the team and supported them wholeheartedly.

Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra Hanks Sharpless. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared countless memories. Lamar is also survived by his children, Scott Lamar Sharpless (wife Sheila) and Rita Carol Thome (husband James). Lamar was preceded in death by his son, James Gregory Sharpless (wife Karen). He adored his grandchildren, Lily Grace, James Thomas, James John, Ansley Parker, and Mia Scott.

A ceremony to honor Lamar’s life will be held on Friday, December 8th, at 11 am at the Orange Beach Methodist Church (28751 Canal Road, Orange Beach, Alabama).

Lamar Sharpless will be remembered as a devoted family man, a respected veteran, a successful professional, and a passionate supporter of The University of Alabama. His legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire those who knew him.
