Lemonade Day Coastal Alabama registration open for area school children

Registration for the Third Annual Lemonade Day Coastal Alabama is now open to school children enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The nationwide education program based out of Houston, Texas, first came to the Coastal Alabama area back in 2018.

The 2021 event is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 15. Participants can attend various workshops on topics (such as recipe development and stand building) to help prepare them for the big day where they will be running their own stand at a designated location in the community.

"Not only are we actively engaging and educating our elementary students once again with a nationally proven entrepreneurial program, but through regional collaboration this experience has now been expanded to include children in Foley as well as Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Across our tri-city region small-business owners, educators and retired professionals alike are working together to mentor our young people and help secure their bright future for years to come," said Greg Alexander, President and CEO of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, "The experience our children gain from participating in Lemonade Day will be a key foundation on which they will continue to grow.

Along with teaching the ins-and-outs of the business world, the program also encourages its' participants to split up the money they have earned in three ways:

·    Spend it - As reward for their hard work.

·    Share it - With a cause or charity in the community.

·    Save it - To put away or re-invest for next year!

This year the program has grown to include the Foley area in partnership with the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, to help further the impact of the program.

"We are so excited to have the opportunity to partner with our neighboring chamber, Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, to provide this wonderful opportunity to the students in our service area," said Kylee Raulerson, Executive Director of the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation, "The lessons, experiences, and fulfillment that the program provides is just what our students need to be the future leaders of our community!"

Registration is currently open at lemonadeday.org/coastal-alabama. Students and parents are encouraged to attend the Registration Kick-off event happening Sunday, March 21 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Park at OWA. Children attending the event can register for Lemonade Day and pickup their complimentary workbooks and backpacks and a voucher for a pass to The Park at OWA.

Those unable to attend the kick-off can pick up their backpacks and workbooks during business hours at the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber's Orange Beach office, located in Suite K-6 at The Wharf.

Parents, business owners, and community leaders looking for more information on the program can contact Penny Hughey, VP of Education and Programs, for the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber at penny@mygulfcoastchamber.com or 251-968-7220.
