Pony Up: Bayside Academy’s Uter taking talents to SMU

All-state Admiral lineman heading to Lone Star State over eight other offers

The Southern Methodist Mustangs were the first to offer Bayside Academy rising senior Graham Uter. Despite eight more Division I offers, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman announced he'll be taking his talents to the Lone Star State after graduation.

After SMU offered the all-state Admiral on March 10, Uter earned offers from UAB, Troy, Stetson, Alabama State, Jacksonville State, Chattanooga, South Alabama, and Marshall.

Uter took his official visit to the Mustangs' campus in Dallas, Texas, over the weekend and committed to the program led by head coach Rhett Lashlee, where he'll work closely with offensive line coach Garin Justice.

Also on campus for official visits that weekend were quarterback Tyler Aronson (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) from Vero Beach High School in Florida and offensive lineman King Large (6-foot-4, 295 pounds) from St. John Bosco High School in California. Both are rated as three-star prospects at their positions according to 247Sports and both also announced commitments to the Mustangs following their weekend visit.

One of two Admirals named all-state after last season, Uter will look to anchor Bayside Academy in the trenches during the first year under head coach Barrett Trotter, a former Auburn quarterback. The Admirals will open the season at home against Pike Liberal Arts on Sept. 1 before kicking off play within Class 4A Region 1 against St. Michael Catholic on the road the following week.

As a junior, Uter collected 45 tackles against double and triple coverage, 14 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 pass breakups to help Bayside Academy secure a fourth straight postseason appearance.
