ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- It was a rooting, tooting good time on Thursday, June 20 when the Robertsdale Public Library hosted a Rooting Tooting Hoe Down as part of its Summer Reading Program.

Participants learned to square dance with the Magnolia Springs Square Dancing group, played Western-themed games and participated in Western-themed crafts.

Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Randy Younce was on hand with his canine partner Hunter, library officials handed out Sheriff’s badges and participants were deputized by Younce.

The first 50 participants also received a cowboy or cowgirl hat and bandana (if they hadn’t already brought their own) and were treated to hamburgers and chips.

The theme for this year’s program is “3…2…1… Blastoff!” along with, “Alabama Has a Universe of Stories,” to honor the state’s bicentennial. Events continue at the library throughout the month of June.

Tom Rayborn will present Tom Foolery, a juggling extravaganza, beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27 will feature a Princess Tea and Super Heroes party beginning at 2 p.m.

Princesses will have tea, sandwiches and cake, while superheroes will enjoy pizza. For more information on this and other activities, contact the library, 251-947-8960.
