Six die in weekend crashes

MOBILE, Alabama -- Two head-on collisions resulted in five deaths in Baldwin County on Saturday, while a passenger was killed in a head-on collision involving a Bay Minette man in Mobile County on Friday.

According to a release issued Saturday by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency in Mobile, a Theodore man is facing manslaughter charges following the death of a Bay Minette man in a head-on collision Saturday evening on Alabama 225 near Cottage Hill Road.

Just 30 minutes later, a Fairhope man, along with all three occupants of the other vehicle, were killed in a head-on collision in which the Fairhope man was allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 65 just north of the Bay Minette/Rabun exit.

On Friday, a Mobile man was killed and five others injured, including a Bay Minette man, in a head-on collision on Schillinger Road just south of U.S. 98 in Semmes, according to a release issued Saturday by ALEA.

According to a release issued Saturday evening, Drazen Alilovic, 48, of Theodore was traveling south on Alabama 225 near Cottage Hill Road shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday when the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving collided head-on with a 1995 Nissan truck.

Despite using a seat belt, the driver of the Nissan, William B. Shuman, 56, of Bay Minette, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

According to the Baldwin County Corrections Facility’s online records, Alilovic has been charged with manslaughter/reckless and is in jail on a $30,000 bond.

At 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, a second fatal crash occurred in Baldwin County on I-65 just north of the Rabun Road exit at mile-marker 38.1.

According to the release, Brent Alden King, 56, of Fairhope was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country he was driving collided head-on with a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan.

King and all three occupants of the Volkswagen, later identified as Joon Hi Song, 80 (driver); Chun Hi Song, 78; and Julie Kun Song, 51; all of Atlanta, were pronounced death at the scene.

According to an ALEA release issued Saturday morning, Gary D. Shiver, 27, of Bay Minette was traveling north on Schillinger Road when the 2000 Jeep Cherokee he was driving collided head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox just south of U.S. 98.

Shiver and a passenger in the Jeep were injured and transported to University Hospital as was Lopez and two passengers in the Chevrolet. A third passenger, identified as 24-year-old Pedro Lopez of Mobile, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alabama State Troopers are conducting ongoing investigations of all three crashes.
