SPANISH FORT – While City Hall and other facilities are still closed, Spanish Fort employees have returned to work under Alabama’s Safer at Home Order.
City employees returned to work on May 11 in preparation for reopening Spanish Fort facilities. City Hall, Spanish Fort Public Library, and Spanish Fort Senior Center remain closed and will reopen in accordance with applicable guidelines, city officials said.
Mayor Mike McMillan praised city workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 outbreak.
“I want to specially thank all the city employees who have remained at full-duty during this time, including department heads, Police Department and the Public Works and Parks Department,” McMillan said in a statement. “A lot of work was accomplished during this down time. I also want to thank the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department and all the first reponders and health care professionals for their service to our community.”
City parks are also open with the exception of Kids Park in Ember Lane. The Spirit Park tennis courts are also open for singles and doubles play. Sport league play has not resumed.
Residents are asked to continue social distancing and washing hands, McMillan said.
