Summerdale Library receives “Star Library Award”

Posted

The Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library in Summerdale recently received a "Star Libraries Award" from the Library Journal Index of public library service. The award is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA). The 2020 Index selects libraries from data based on per capita statistics including materials purchased, materials circulated and annual visits. The library has been named a Star Library for the past five years and was one of only six public libraries in the State of Alabama to receive the award this year.

“It is very rewarding for us to receive national recognition for the Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library. Our dedication to provide library services to our patrons continues to strengthen our community,” said Cindy Suggs, Library Director. “During these challenging times we have seen a decline in library service hours and libraries struggling to keep their doors open, so we are thankful to be able to continue serving the people of Baldwin County.”

The Marjorie Younce Snook Public Library is located at 202 West Broadway Street in Summerdale and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Along with books, magazines, DVDs and audio books, the library offers copywork, fax, scans, laminating and notary public services.

Online services available on the library’s website include Camellia Net for downloading eBooks, audiobooks and magazines, free tutoring for students through Homework Alabama, support to students and professionals through Learning Express Library and the Alabama Virtual Library providing all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. The library has an Adult Computer Lab with ten computers available for public use and a Children’s Computer Lab with eight Mac computers and two educational computers available.
