Summerdale School shows school spirit during Homecoming Week

Posted

SUMMERDALE - The Summerdale School students and faculty are showing their school spirit during Homecoming Week, which began Monday, Sept. 20 and will continue through Thursday, Sept. 23 when the school will play its Homecoming football game. This year’s game will feature the grand debut of the Summerdale Pep Squad, featuring 31 cheerleaders ranging from ages seven to 12.

In honor of spirit week, the school has started a unique fundraiser this year, which they believe will be lots of fun for students and faculty - and will result in two faculty members receiving a pie to the face during the Homecoming game!

“We are starting a unique fundraiser that is a lot of fun for the students and faculty,” said Shelley Cantrell, Family & Consumer Sciences teacher, Family, Career, Community Leaders of America Advisor, and cheer coach with the school. “School spirit or any joyful spirit is good to spread while there is so much going on in our world today. I am thankful to work in such a positive environment. Our brave and willing faculty are risking getting pied for new sporting equipment!”

Donation jars have been placed throughout the school, ready to be filled with funds to go towards new sporting equipment. Donations will be collected from Sept. 13 - 23, and the participating staff members who collect the most and least money will receive a pie in the face on Sept. 23. The students who are announced as the Rock N’ Roll “best” dressed winners during the school’s pep rally will be the ones to throw the pies.

Participating faculty and staff who have placed a donation jar are: Ms. Hiller, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Chakwin, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Lanicci, Mrs. Presley, Mrs. Carnley, Mrs. Harbison, Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. Kilgore, Coach Bodden, Coach Meadows, Coach Owens, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Ottesen, Mrs. Andersen, Mrs. Townsend, Miss Grant, Miss Hrabovsky and Miss Cantrell.

During Summerdale Middle School Spirit Week, students will enjoy a week of fun theme-filled days leading up to the Homecoming game. Each day, one student dressed “the best” will win a goodie bag. On Monday, Sept. 20, students enjoyed Decade Day. The theme for Tuesday, Sept. 21 was Disney Dress Up Day. Today is Wild West Wednesday at Summerdale Middle. Finally, Homecoming Day on Thursday, Sept. 23 will be Rock N’ Roll Over the Raiders, and will feature a pep rally performed by the Pep Squad.

The Rock N’ Roll Over the Raiders Homecoming pep rally will take place beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23 in the school gym. After the football team enters the gym and the mascot and cheerleaders lead the students in showing some school spirit, the two students voted the “best rock n’ roll dressed” will be announced, as will the fundraiser participants who raised the highest and lowest donations. Pies will be on standby for the fun event.
