Support EVFD during drive-thru style Elberta German Sausage Festival

ELBERTA - Head out to Elberta on Saturday, May 23 at 8 a.m. to enjoy the first ever drive-thru style Elberta German Sausage Festival! The biannual event (which normally takes place the last Saturday of March and October) helps raise funds for the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department.

As posted on the EVFD’s Facebook page: “We will be cooking and selling 2,000 pounds of Elberta German Sausage with or without kraut for $5 per sandwich. We will be accepting cash and credit payments. As always, any donations are also welcome.”

Those attending the event are asked to enter the vehicle line from Main Street onto Oak Street. Both lanes of Oak Street will be one-way to allow two drive-thru lines. Both lines will turn onto Chicago Street, where a section will also be one-way to allow each lane to form a line. Each line will have its own pickup point, and each line will also have its own route to exit from the pickup point.

“We will have personnel deployed at various points to ensure traffic to and from the pickup points flows smoothly,” the department posted on Facebook. “Patrons will not exit their vehicles during this event. Raw sausage will not be sold. Please share the news with your friends, and we hope you will come out to support the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department!”

Earlier this year, plans for the March 2020 Festival were postponed due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. During the Stay at Home order in April, the department made the difficult decision to cancel the event, with plans still in place for October 2020.

“Unfortunately due to poor weather during the October 2019 Festival and the cancellation of the March 2020 Festival, this has created an unusual financial burden on our department,” the EVFD posted back in April. “This event is the primary fundraiser for the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department and is very important to us, however the health and well-being of the general public is far more important.”

The Elberta German Sausage Festival’s proceeds help fund new equipment and department improvements, as well as improvements to the town. For those who are unable to attend the drive-thru event but would like to make a donation to the EVFD, visit http://www.elbertafire.com.
