Thomas Wayne Cook was born to Harvey and Nell Cook on Jul. 2, 1944, in Century, Florida. Tom departed this life on Feb. 28, 2024, at his sister’s home in Elberta, Alabama.

He spent his early years living in Saraland, Alabama and graduated from Satsuma High School, class of 1962. Tom continued his education at the University of Montevallo and Louisiana State University. A U.S. Navy veteran, Tom served in Vietnam with the staff of Commander U.S. Naval Forces Vietnam.  In 1978, Tom and his dad started a business, Pier 33 Grocery, in Gulf Shores and after 38 successful years, he retired.

Tom loved life, loved to travel, and his adventures took him to many places and events around the world. He made his home in Gulf Shores but enjoyed spending time in his home in New Orleans, and his home in Wolf Bay, fishing and spending time with friends and family.

Tom is survived by his sisters, Linda Cook Bain and Susan Cook of Elberta, Alabama; nieces, Lisa Johnsey (Jackie) Destin, Florida, Jessica Johnsey, Lennon Christie, and Christy Smith; nephew, Brian Johnsey; friends, Scott Orlinski, Suzanne Dawsey; and his pups, Millie, and Ramey.

At his request, Tom’s remains will be cremated, and a memorial will be planned at a later date.

Memorials or contributions may be made in his name to his grandmother’s church where he enjoyed attending the annual homecoming celebration, Annie Jones Memorial UMC, 6190 Arthur Brown Road, Walnut Hill, FL. 32568.
