SILVERHILL, Alabama — The town of Silverhill presented winners of its first Silverhill Photography Contest at the regular council meeting on Monday, July 20.

“Back when the COVID-19 crisis first began, we were looking for things that people could do safely around town and this is one of the things we came up with,” said Mayor Jared Lyles. “I am really pleased with the participation we received, and we are planning on making this an annual event.”

The contest was announced in March and entries were accepted through May 1, Lyles said. Photographers did not have to be from the town of Silverhill, but all photographs were required to have been taken in and around Silverhill.

There was no fee to enter the contest and photographs entered could have been taken at any time, Lyles said.

The contest was open in four age divisions, Youth (ages 5-9); Intermediate (10-14); Young Adult (15-18) and Adult (over 18) in three categories, nature, people and architecture.

“I think we had entries in each category,” Lyles said. There were a total of 30 entries in the contest.

Winners Eli Lynn (Intermediate Division, Nature Category) and Madeline McPherson (Young Adult, Architecture Category) were present at the July 20 meeting and received a framed copy of their photo, along with a certificate to Brodie’s Cream and Bean. Youth Division, Architecture Division winner Bryan D’Angelo will also receive a certificate to Cream and Bean.

Adult division winners included Maddy Campbell, People; Julissa Rios, Architecture; Elizabeth Busby, Nature; and Lee Ann Casaday, Multicategory, will also receive a framed copy of their photo and certificates to Silverhill’s Café Acadiana.
