The 2020 Gulf Shores Municipal Election ballot for City Council had many choices; 11 candidates ran for four of the five places and now place one and two will be decided in a runoff election Oct. 6.

Two Gulf Shores City Council positions will be decided in runoff election Oct. 6

The 2020 Gulf Shores Municipal Election ballot for City Council had many choices; 11 candidates ran for four of the five places and now place one and two will be decided in a runoff election Oct. 6.

Place one incumbent Joe Garris received 48.77% of the vote with 1,265 votes. Challenger Bill Coyne received 39.01% of the vote with 1,012 votes and Edward L. Reese received 12.22% of the vote with 317 votes.

Place two incumbent Gary Sinak received 47.44% of the vote with 1,232 votes. Challenger Michelle Stancil received 28.65% of the vote with 744 votes and Nan Hedgspeth received 23.91% of the vote with 621 votes.

On Oct. 6, Gulf Shores voters will have a choice between incumbent Joe Garris and challenger Bill Coyne for place one and incumbent Gary Sinak and challenger Michelle Stancil for place two.

Mayor Robert Craft faced opposition for the first time since being elected in 2008. John E. Bays Jr. ran against Craft for mayor but in the end, Craft won with over 63% of the vote.

Incumbent Jason Dyken will retain place four after winning 54.97% of the vote over Angie Swiger and Tim Clayborn. Place five incumbent Steve Jones beat out Cheryl Connell with 59% of the vote.
