Ways to serve healthcare professionals in our area

Posted

3Circle Church, which has several campuses in Baldwin County, is asking the community to help the parish support healthcare professionals during the coronavirus crisis. The church is asking for donations of personal protective equipment and hand sewn masks and gowns.

Here are several ways you can help:

Donate supplies - Supplies are needed that can be used to make face masks, scrub caps, and gowns. This includes fabric, elastic, ribbon, thread, and bias tape. If you have any of these that you are willing to donate, someone will pick up from your front porch.

Please email DonatePPESupplies@gmail.com or text 251-422-3546, to donate supplies.

Sew face masks - If you have basic sewing machine skills, you have an opportunity to help our local and regional healthcare professionals by sewing much-needed face masks and surgical gowns!

If you have fabric at home you can easily make masks with the following materials.

Supplies for each TIE mask -
1 - 7.5” X 15” piece of fabric
2 - 30” X 2” strips for ties
1 - 6” pipe cleaner

If you do not have fabric at home a local quilt shop is putting out kits daily with the supplies listed above. These are first come/first serve, for the entire community to sew, with the material free of charge. Check “The Nest At Magnolia Springs” on Facebook for updates on how many kits they have available on a given day. Completed masks should be returned to The Nest, for distribution (based on an ongoing waiting list of medical professionals).

The tutorials for a mask with fabric ties and pocket for a filter (the nurses and doctors prefer the ties, as elastic can be too tight and uncomfortable) can be found at the links below:

(See videos “part 1” and “part 2” for ties.)

Sew surgical gowns: Gowns can be made from bed sheets. The pattern is attached below. A video tutorial can be found here:

If you do not have fabric/sheets:

There are donation drop-off and fabric pick-up containers, specifically for gowns, that have been set up on a local doctor’s porch, at 824 Summer Lake Street in Fairhope. Drop by to pick-up fabric; supplies are replenished daily.

Thank you for considering helping. Regarding social distancing and the statewide “stay at home” order, this is considered an “essential service,” and will require zero social interaction, on your part. As always, we appreciate your heart to serve our community!
