GATESWOOD — A Cantonment, Fla., woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she led Florida deputies into Baldwin County Saturday night, where she allegedly fired at officers and barricaded herself inside her vehicle before being taken into custody by K-9 units after approximately three hours.
According to a release issued Sunday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Amanda Thompson, 37, is being held without bond at the Baldwin County Corrections Center, charged with interference with custody, resisting arrest, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol and reckless endangerment. She also has holds for felony warrants with Escambia County, Fla.
According to the release, Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s deputies engaged in a vehicle pursuit with a wanted person, crossing over into Alabama on County Road 112 and chased the vehicle into a field near the intersection of Tower Road and 112 in the Gateswood community.
The occupant of the vehicle, identified as Thompson, fired several rounds from a handgun after coming to a stop.
BCSO responded along with SWAT and K-9 units. Negotiations were started to get Thompson to surrender. After approximately three hours of negotiations, she exited the vehicle with the firearm. Less lethal means were used, along with a K-9 to take the suspect into custody.
Thompson was transported to the Malbis E.R. and treated for dog bites before being transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette, where she was booked at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday.
The U.S. Marshals Service also assisted in this case.
