FAIRHOPE --- The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation gave $11,000 to five organizations in its third competitive grant cycle.

The grants will address the needs of the Fairhope/Point Clear community in efforts to improve the quality of life of its residents.

The 2021-2022 grantees include Prodisee Pantry, Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation, Young Street Community Park Garden run by the city of Fairhope, Alabama Credit Union Foundation, and Baldwin County Youth Orchestra.

“The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation is making great strides to strengthen the local community,” Rebecca Byrne, Community Foundation of South Alabama president and CEO, said. “This third grant cycle is a testament to this community’s diligence and resiliency.”

The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation was established in January 2018 to make a lasting impact on the Fairhope/Point Clear community. The foundation established the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Fund as a vehicle to receive donations and bequests to benefit the community. In addition to the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Fund from which the advisory committee administers the foundation’s competitive grant process, several donor advised funds have also been established under the foundation.

The committee overseeing the foundation consists of George Spottswood, Mac Walcott, Maggie Bagwell Lacey, Jeanna Pilot, Beth Craft, Wesley Carpenter, Johnny Lyle, Bill McNair and Ashley Bonner. Together, they determine what areas to focus on within the Fairhope/Point Clear Communities. Through concerted grantmaking, the Foundation gives these local leaders an opportunity to make a difference in Fairhope/Point Clear.

By working with The Community Foundation of South Alabama, an affiliate can focus on raising funds and deciding charitable use for the income of the community fund while relying on the parent foundation to handle the administration, investment and required daily tasks. Through a concerted grant-making effort, the effects of a community fund can be felt for generations to come. An advisory committee of Fairhope and Point Clear residents makes recommendations about how the charitable dollars are spent, and The Community Foundation of South Alabama bears the legal responsibility to ensure that the funds are then used in compliance with donor intent.

The Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation was founded in 2018 by a group of Fairhope and Point Clear citizens. As an affiliate of the Community Foundation of South Alabama, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, we accept a wide variety of tax-deductible contributions, such as cash, appreciated stocks, real estate or other assets.
