September 17 meeting rescheduled

Posted

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (ADCNR) Marine Resources Division (MRD) will host an oyster meeting on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 1-3 p.m. at the Bayou La Batre Community and Senior Center located at 12745 Padgett Switch Rd., Irvington, Alabama, 36544.

The focus of the meeting will be to update the community about present MRD activities related to the management of Alabama’s oyster fisheries and to receive public input.

The meeting is open to the public. However, space is limited. To maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, MRD is asking that only one person per household or group attend the meeting. Additionally, masks must be worn when inside the building. Entrance to the building will not be permitted to those not wearing masks.

During the meeting MRD representatives will discuss:

  • 2020 oyster reef survey results
  • Potential impacts of Hurricane Sally
  • Potential area(s) to open for public oyster harvesting and date to open public reefs to harvest
  • New changes to oyster reef and harvest management
  • Upcoming oyster related projects

If Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations are needed, please contact Jason Herrmann (jason.herrmann @dcnr.alabama.gov) at (251) 861-2882. Requests should be made as soon as possible but at least five days prior to the scheduled meeting.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through four divisions: Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
