Commission considers moving some meetings to Fairhope

FAIRHOPE – The Baldwin County Commission is considering moving half its regular meetings from Bay Minette to Fairhope starting in October, county officials said Monday, Aug. 16.

During the commission work session held at the Fairhope Satellite Courthouse, County Administrator Wayne Dyess said staff members are preparing a resolution to make the change at the beginning of the fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1.

The commission hold regularly scheduled meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month in their chambers in Bay Minette.

Under the proposal, the second meeting of each month, on the third Tuesday, would be held in Fairhope.

The commission also holds a work session on the Monday before the meeting. Work sessions are rotated each month between Bay Minette, the Fairhope Satellite Courthouse, Foley Satellite Courthouse and County Annex in Robertsdale.

Dyess said the commission has been discussing holding some regular meetings in Fairhope to allow residents and officials to take part in the proceedings without having to drive to the county seat.

“This has been discussed for some time,” he said. “This was built with that in mind. The Foley Satellite really doesn’t have anywhere like this where they could hold meetings.”

The county expanded the Fairhope Satellite Courthouse in 2009, adding an uncompleted second floor. The commission voted in 2019 to compete the second floor. Additions included the new commission chambers.
