Drugs wash ashore in Gulf Shores

Posted

Over the last week, several mysterious packages containing cocaine have washed ashore in Gulf Shores. The first packages were found around 11 p.m. May 17. Packages have continued to wash ashore from the 6th Street Public Beach Access to Fort Morgan. To date, 36 plastic wrapped kilos of cocaine have been found.

The question remains, where did they come from? Sgt. Jason Woodruff of Gulf Shores Police said, “It starts with more questions than answers and we rarely get answers on these cases. It is rare, but we have something like this, generally once every year, but certainly nothing like this amount.”

The packages have an estimated street value of $1.2 million and have been turned over to federal investigators. Gulf Shores Police will continue to patrol along the beach and request that you not handle any packages that may be found.
