Gulf Shores High School announces new softball coach

Gulf Shores High School Lady Dolphins Softball team has a new head coach. Haley Hopkins-Steege is a third-year history teacher at Gulf Shores High and served as associate head coach in the softball program the last two years. Hopkins is also a Gulf Shores High School alumni.

Hopkins graduated from Gulf Shores High School in 2008 and was a six year letter winner in softball and four year letter winner in volleyball. The team competed in the state tournament five of her six years taking first place in 2007 and second place in 2006 and 2004. Hopkins was inducted into the Gulf Shores High School Hall of Fame in 2018.

Before teaching at her alma mater, Hopkins was the head coach for the Spanish Fort High School Softball team, leading the Toros to the region tournament in her final season.

Hopkins played softball at the University of South Alabama where her team competed for and won the program’s first Sunbelt Conference Championship. The team also made it to the NCAA Regional Tournament championship game.

Hopkins holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in education, is an ACT certified teacher and is currently pursing National Board Certification. She is married to Megann Steege, Athletic Coordinator for the City of Gulf Shores Recreation Department and the couple have a daughter, Maverick.
