Fairhope, Orange Beach and Spanish Fort softball clubs advanced to the 2021 AHSAA state championship tournament.
In the Class 7A South Regional qualifier, the Pirates shutout Bryant 10-0 and Baker 18-0 for the top South seed slot. Baker advanced as the South runner-up with a 12-4 win over Bryant.
The Pirates’ offense was led by Justice Palmer and Bailey Wiggins with three runs-batted-in each. Bella Wiggins went 5-for-5 and scored four times. Bella Cabral and Aubree Flanagan had two RBI’s each. Bailee Welsh had a double and scored twice. Alea Johnson got the shutout regional-championship win over the Baker Honeybees striking out 11 of 15 batters faced.
In the 10-0 win over the Alma Bryant Hurricanes, Fairhope sophomore Rylee Harrison struck out 14 of 18 batters through five innings for the win. At the plate, Cabral had three RBIs including a homerun. Harrison went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Welsh had an RBI triple.
In the 2A qualifier, Orange Beach advanced to the state tournament as the South Regional runner-up. The Makos battled back through the bottom bracket to defeat Leroy 11-4 for the South runner-up slot.
Long advanced as the South Regional top seed.
In 6A, Spanish Fort swept through the top of their bracket with wins over Valley (5-1), Saraland (2-1) and Gulf Shores (15-0 ) in the finals. The Dolphins defeated Eufaula 5-3 and McGill-Toolen Catholic 7-1 before dropping into the lower bracket where they lost to South Regional runner-up Saraland 5-4.
