The Third Annual Lemonade Day Coastal Alabama was a sweet success with 16 teams participating. This year the program has grown to include the Foley area in partnership with the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
The nationwide education program based in Houston, Texas, first came to the Coastal Alabama area in 2018. Along with teaching kindergarten through fifth graders the ins-and-outs of the business world, the program encourages its' participants to split up the money they have earned in three ways:
Spend it - As reward for their hard work.
Share it - With a cause or charity in the community.
Save it - To put away or re-invest for next year.
“Across our tri-city region small business owners, educators and retired professionals alike are working together to mentor our young people and help secure their bright future for years to come," said Greg Alexander, President and CEO of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. "The experience our children gain from participating in Lemonade Day will be a key foundation on which they will continue to grow.”
This year teams participated in a kickoff party at OWA, recipe development at Gulf Coast Culinary Institute and build a stand workshop. On May 15, teams set up their stands all over the area from driveways, the Flora Bama Ole River Grill to Maw Maws Country Market in Robertsdale. The Safari Girls Lemonade stand at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo had a special salesperson, Bruce Quillis the porcupine.
