For more than 25 years the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay has honored law enforcement officers for their service to the community. This year The Deputy Scott Ward Memorial Law Enforcement Officers of the Year are Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dylan Misso and Fairhope Police Department Officer Kevin Conroy.

Both officers were responsible for saving a life. Deputy Misso noticed an Elberta Police Office attending to a woman in distress who may have overdosed. Deputy Misso administered a dose of NARCAN and within seconds the woman became more coherent. After a trip to the hospital, she made a full recovery.

As a canine handler, he also was involved in the apprehension of several suspects throughout the year. He and his K9 partner took first place in the K9 Narcotic Detection competition at the 25th Annual Police K9 Seminar in Dothan, Alabama.

Officer Conroy was dispatched to a vehicle fire. The driver was entrapped and injured. After a quick assessment of the situation, he determined she was at risk of death by burning or smoke inhalation. Despite possible harm to himself, he was able to pull her from the burning vehicle, preventing further injury and possible saving her life.
